Our Story
Driftwood Coffee started with a simple obsession: finding the perfect cup worth walking to the beach for. We opened our doors in Santa Cruz because this town — with its surfers, students, artists, and wanderers — deserved a coffee shop as unhurried as a morning low tide.
We roast our own beans in small batches on-site, bake every pastry before sunrise, and keep the patio open for every dog in the neighborhood. It's not fancy. It's just really, really good.
What We Stand For
We only buy from farms that pay fair wages and use sustainable practices. We visit our partners. We know their names.
Our roaster runs every week. We don't stockpile. Every bag you taste was roasted within days, not months.
No day-old pastries. Our baker arrives at 5am so you get something worth the drive by the time we open at 7.
We source blueberries from Watsonville farms, support local artists on our walls, and show up for our neighborhood.
How We Got Here
2018
With a secondhand espresso machine, one roasting drum, and a dream, Driftwood Coffee serves its first cup on a foggy Tuesday morning in April. Eight people show up. Six become regulars.
2019
We build out the sunny back patio, plant jasmine along the fence, and officially declare it dog-friendly. The water bowl never empties.
2020
Through a challenging year, we pivot to retail bags of our house roast, donate 500 cups to essential workers, and add a tip-share model for our whole team.
2022
We hire our first dedicated baker, Marisol, whose croissants are — no exaggeration — the best in the county. The pastry case sells out by 11am every Saturday.
Today
We haven't grown into a chain. We don't want to. We want to keep doing exactly this — one great cup, one happy dog, one beautiful morning at a time.
The Crew
We're baristas, bakers, roasters, and full-time beach lovers. We remember your order. We know your dog's name. That's the whole plan.
Come say hi.
Open every day, 7am to 4pm. Just look for the driftwood sign.
